Holi Festival

           Holi - spring festival which is connected with wheat harvest and is celebrated for two days. According to a legend which explains the origin of the festival once there lived a powerful devil. He was very egoistic and forbade everyone to pray the God or even take the name of the God. But his son didn’t obey his father’s order. That’s why his angry father sentenced young prince to death. He ordered Holica who was a female demon and who claimed she was fireproof to take a young man on her lap and sit on a fire. Holica was burnt but the young prince survived. Holi is a festival of colour and is celebrated all over India. It is also celebrated by Indians   residing out of India The Festival brings new hopes for all the people.  Everywhere people – young and old are drenched with different colours and water. People in small groups are seen singing, dancing and throwing colors at each other.

The purpose of this festival is to show the triumph of virtue and religion over evil. That’s why while celebrating people make an effigy, arrange a fire and burn it. On this day people pay and forgive debts, stop quarreling and wish each other good luck.
